Mount Zas on Naxos is the highest peak in the Cyclades ((1,004 m). According to mythology, the young Zeus was raised in a cave on Mt. Zas ("Zas" meaning "Zeus").
On Naxos, you can enjoy waist-deep lagoon and a wave spot in a single location. The lagoon is protected by the reef and has sandy seabed. Inside the lagoon conditions are great for freestyle and slalom. There is a marked gateway at the offshore reef, showing the way to the wave spot. The waves (usually from 1 to 2.5 m high) provides excellent jumping and backside riding conditions. The windsurfing season on Naxos lasts from May to October. Summer months, when meltelmi blows, are the best time to go.

Rhodes is one of the Greek Dodecanese Islands located in the Aegean Sea 250 kilometres south east of the mainland (port of Piraeus). The name "Rhodes" comes from "island of the roses". Rhodes has a unique physical scenery that does not stop to impress its visitors. Also unique is its climate: Rhodes is called the island of sun because of its 320 days of sunshine a year.
Windsurfing season on Rhodes begins in March and lasts until the end of November, but the best time to go to Rhodes for windsurfing, of course, is the summer, especially the months of July and August. In the mornings the water is flat and the wind is calm, but by midday the wind picks up and the waves start to swell, and by the afternoon the wind is really blowing. In other words, the Rhodes windsurfing conditions are good for surfers of all ages and abilities.

Basic windsurfing gear consists of all of the parts of the actual windsurfer board and the accessories that are worn by windsurfers or used to store or maintain their boards.
The basic windsurfer consists of the board, sail, and rig. The board is usually made of a composite of materials and has a rear fin for steering. The board might also have a center rib or fin underneath for additional stability or steering ease. The sail provides the propulsion for the windsurfer and sails come in various sizes depending upon the type of windsurfing being done and the expertise of the rider. The part of windsurfing gear known as the rig consists of three additional parts.
The rig consists of a boon, mast, and mast base. The boon is the harness loop that the windsurfer grips to turn the mast and sail to steer the board. The mast is the pole that is turned by the boom and to which the said is attached. The mast base is the swivel joint where the mast fits into the board. It is a swivel joint to allow the mast to be easily turned.
Although the original windsurfer was made of polyethylene, most modern boards are made of an expanded polystyrene foam core between a sandwich of carbon fiber, Kevlar, or fiberglass in a matrix of epoxy. The racing boards are light in weight averaging between 5 and 7 kilograms. The boards designed for beginners are generally heavier weighting between 8 and 15 kilograms. The sails are usually made from mono film Dacron and Mylar reinforced by a Kevlar mesh.

In the morning wind conditions in Cabarete are good for beginners or children: the wind is very light and the water tends to be flat. In the afternoon the wind increases for intermediate and expert level windsurfing, and blows until 6 p.m. The normal wind direction is South-East, cross offshore.
Cabarete Bay has a sandy bottom, with only a few spots of reef in the inner bay that are quite easy to avoid. The offshore reef is about 600m away from the beach. The great advantage of Cabarete windsurfing is that here in one place you have two types of sailing conditions - waves and flat water. Beginners and intermediates will feel comfortable inside the reef, where flat water (or chop sometimes) are optimal for learning and practicing new elements. More ambitious windsurfers can go to the reef for wave sailing.
During the winter windsurfing season (December to April), the wind is less constant but wave freaks can ride down reef waves up to 4 m in height. This period is great to learn and practice wave sailing. Average sail size for mid-sized Male: 5.7m2.
The period from June to September is the summer windsurfing season in the Dominican Republic. The wind tends to be stronger than in winter. Waves are not as consistent as in other periods, but flatter waters are great for slalom sailing. Average sail size for mid-sized Male: 5.3m2.

And, what is more important for windsurfers and kitesurfers, Mauritius has at least 300 windy days a year. Plus, touch-the-bottom lagoon, warm water, sandy beach - a true heaven for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Winter on Mauritius is from May to September; this is when the trade winds are at their best, but even in the remaining months of the year, the trade winds still offer windsurfers excellent conditions. Generally, the trade wind blows from east to southeast. From December to April, relatively heavy rain showers can be expected, which soon blow over, however.

The proper windsurf board grip is vital to prevent slipping off of your board. After about two seasons of consistent use the gripping material can wear down causing a poor foothold that is especially problematic when turning. Some windsurfers are able the minimize the gripping problem by wearing windsurf boots but many enjoy having the ability to stand barefoot and hold to their boards.

Then allow the surface to dry thoroughly and then wash off excess. This does work for a time but the salt can react to some resins and you end up with a yellowed coating on your board. Also over time the sugar or salt will melt and leave sharp pits in the resin. The best treatment is by far done by evenly sprinkling fine acrylic dust over wet UV resistant resin.
